BlackTop should last at least two years unopened, and at least six months after opening if you store it correctly.

BlackTop Shelf Life: Quick Facts

Unopened: 2+ years
After opening: 6+ months
Never pour unused BlackTop back into the can. This shortens shelf life and can build up pressure, which may pop the lid.

Dispense only the amount you need into a separate container (steel or glass works best) and reseal the original can immediately. Keep the can groove free of paint with a scoop or a KBS Paint Spout, and use painters plastic between the lid and the can to stop metal-to-metal contact, since cured BlackTop can permanently seal a lid shut. Store in a cool, dry place. For longer storage, spray KBS Paint Saver into the can before resealing: 2 seconds for quarts or smaller, 4 seconds for gallons. Paint Saver displaces the oxygen and moisture in the can that would otherwise start curing the paint prematurely.
