Yes. KBS Klean will not harm plastic, so a tank with a mix of plastic and metal internal parts is fine. It is a good cleaner for both materials and it works for cleaning the inside of a tank. You can also run KBS Klean safely through the fuel pump to clean it out.
Cleaning a Tank Interior
Tank interiors are the heavily soiled case, so the ratio is 1 part hot water to 1 part KBS Klean. Hotter water cleans better. The step by step tank procedure is in the Tank Sealer directions, and the ratio itself is covered on the tank sealing dilution page.
KBS Klean is step one of the KBS 3 Step Tank Sealing System: KBS Klean to clean, RustBlast to treat rust and etch, then Gold Standard Tank Sealer.
Running It Through the Fuel Pump
KBS Klean can be run safely through the fuel pump to clean it out. That matters on an in tank pump assembly you cannot remove without pulling the whole sender unit.
Rinse thoroughly with water afterward and do not allow KBS Klean to dry anywhere inside the tank before you rinse.
Do Not Let It Dry Inside the Tank
This rule is harder to follow inside a tank than on an open panel, because you cannot see what is happening. Keep the solution moving, work in a reasonable time frame, and rinse thoroughly with water when the cleaning step is done. Any cleaner left behind interferes with the adhesion of what goes on next, and inside a tank the thing going on next is the sealer.
Kits and Sizes
Tank sealing kits that include all three steps are on the Tank Sealer kits page. Wear protective rubber gloves and safety glasses at all times.
