KBS Bed Renu on Bumpers: Quick Facts

Coverage: up to 30 sq. ft. per 15 oz. can
Recoat: 1 to 2 hours, dry to the touch
Full cure: usually within 48 hours
Spray at: 50 to 90F, 70% humidity or lower
Prime first on bare surfaces. Plastic bumpers need Fusion FPP under KBS Bed Renu. Metal bumpers worn to bare metal need the KBS 3-Step Rust Prevention System first. Both steps are below.

Steel Bumpers

If a metal bumper still has sound paint, clean it with KBS Klean and let it dry. Avoid solvent-based cleaners, which leave invisible residues that can affect adhesion. If the bumper is down to bare metal, use the KBS 3-Step Rust Prevention System: clean with KBS Klean, etch with RustBlast, then prime and seal with RustSeal. Spray KBS Bed Renu directly over the RustSeal when it is between 3 and 8 hours old, with no other prep. Past 8 hours, let the RustSeal cure a full 24 hours and scuff it with 320 grit before spraying. That base gives the ultimate longest lasting finish.

Plastic Bumpers

KBS Bed Renu goes on plastic bumpers over Fusion FPP. The Fusion FPP directions call for sanding the plastic lightly with fine sandpaper or steel wool for maximum adhesion. Fusion FPP is dry to the touch in 10 minutes and ready for KBS Bed Renu in 30 minutes.

Spraying the Bumper

Spray between 50F and 90F in 70% humidity or lower. Shake the can for at least one minute after the mixing ball rattles, and shake again for about 10 seconds every 1 to 2 minutes while spraying. Hold the can 8 to 10 inches from the bumper, press the valve all the way down, move back and forth releasing the sprayhead after each stroke, and overlap each stroke. Apply one or two thin covering coats, recoating once the previous coat is dry to the touch. Full steps are in the KBS Bed Renu directions.

Coating a Whole Bed or a Big Job?

One 15 oz. can of KBS Bed Renu covers up to 30 square feet, and a 3-pack covers up to 90. For a full truck bed or a larger area, KBS Bed Liner comes by the gallon, covers up to 250 square feet at 2 coats, and rolls, brushes or sprays on.
