Fusion SEP is medium grey. The grey makes it easy to see where you have primed and where you have not, so you can lay down one thin, even covering coat without missing spots. Fusion SEP comes in one color only, and Fusion FPP Flexible Plastics Primer is the same medium grey.
Why Grey Helps
Fusion SEP goes on in thin coats. The Fusion SEP directions call for thin, covering coats, and a single coat is generally all that is required. A medium grey primer over bare metal, brass, aluminum or old paint shows you right away where the coat is thin or missing, so you can cover the surface evenly without piling it on.
If you do need more than one coat, apply 2 to 3 light to medium coats with 3 to 5 minutes of dry time between each. Covering does not mean thick: Fusion SEP is not a high build primer. If you need to fill surface imperfections, use KBS 2K DTM Build Primer.
Topcoating Over Grey Fusion SEP
After 1 hour, topcoat with BlackTop, KBS MAXX, KBS Top Coater, KBS Top Coater Aerosol or Motor Coater. No sanding is needed if you topcoat within 24 hours. Between 24 hours and 7 days, you can skip the scuff only if the primed surface has stayed flawlessly clean, which is hard to do, so scuff with 300 grit if you are not sure. After 7 days, always scuff with 300 grit before topcoating.
Sizes and Coverage
Fusion SEP comes in six sizes: aerosol, 8oz, pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon pail. Published coverage is up to 35 sq. ft. per aerosol, 50 per pint, 100 per quart, 400 per gallon and 2,000 per 5 gallon pail. Every size is the same medium grey.
