Yes. Quart and gallon Cavity Coater is made to be sprayed through an undercoating style Schutz gun such as the KBS Schutz Underseal Spray Gun with its 48 inch 360 degree spray wand. Thin it 30 to 50 percent with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits, set 90 to 150 PSI at the gun, and spray as you pull the wand out of the cavity at about 2 inches per second for a 1 mil dry film.

Spraying Cavity Coater With a Schutz Gun: Quick Facts

Gun: KBS Schutz Underseal Spray Gun, or any auto body Schutz type gun with a spray wand
Thinning: 30 to 50 percent with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits
Pressure: 90 to 150 PSI at the gun
Wand: 48 inch probe with a 360 degree tip, fits a 3/8 inch hole
Film: one coat, 1 mil dry
Coverage: quart 200 sq. ft., gallon 800 sq. ft. at 1 mil
Thin it first. The 48 inch probe is sized for thin coatings, which in practice means Cavity Coater thinned 30 to 50 percent. Thick material forced through the probe clogs the 360 degree tip.

How to Spray Cavity Coater With a Schutz Gun

  1. Bring Cavity Coater to room temperature and stir it 3 to 5 minutes until it is uniform.
  2. Thin it 30 to 50 percent with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits, then stir another 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Pour it into a clean container that fits your gun. The KBS Schutz gun threads onto a standard US dome style quart can, and an empty dome quart can is available as an option with the gun.
  4. Check the cavity: knock off any loose, scaly rust you can reach, clean grease or oil with KBS Klean, and make sure the surface is dry.
  5. Set 90 to 150 PSI at the gun.
  6. Feed the 48 inch wand into the cavity through a 3/8 inch access hole, then spray as you pull it out at about 2 inches per second. Vary pressure and wand speed to reach a 1 mil dry film.
  7. Wipe any excess off exterior surfaces with a clean rag lightly dampened with mineral spirits.
  8. Flush the gun with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits right after use.

Schutz Gun or Cavity Wand?

The Schutz gun is the tool for bulk quart and gallon Cavity Coater, which suits a full vehicle, a shop, or several vehicles. For a single vehicle or spot work, the Cavity Coater Aerosol with the 36 inch Cavity Wand is simpler: it attaches straight to the can and fits through a 1/4 inch hole. See reusing and cleaning the Cavity Wand.

Before You Spray

Cavity Coater goes on last. Apply and fully cure every exterior coating, including RustSeal, before the cavity work, because nothing can be painted or caulked over Cavity Coater. In enclosed areas such as door panels, the solvents can take several hours to escape. Keep the area away from heat, sparks, electrical devices and open flame during that time, and wear gloves and safety glasses. The Cavity Coater directions cover the full process.
